Happy Presidents' Day, everyone! While we know some Lantana families may be enjoying a day off from school or a day away from the office, today is the day to take the time and reflect on the presidents who have made our country what it is today.
Presidents' Day always falls on the third Monday of February every year and was originally intended to honor George Washington, as the holiday is sometimes called Washington's Birthday. These days, however, the day acknowledges all of the American presidents.
What are some ways your family can celebrate Presidents Day in your Lantana home? Spend some time sharing the history of America's past presidents with your kiddos and make it even more fun by adding in crafts to get your family into the patriotic spirit:
Star-Spangled Wavers
Festive Fans
Paper Plate Abe Lincoln Hat
Future President Pin (This one is too cute!)
Presidents Day Pretzel & Peanut Butter Log Cabin (Yum!)
Do you do anything special for Presidents' Day?

Lantana Community boasts an active lifestyle for its residents with the many amenities available within walking distance from all neighborhoods. From the miles of hike and bike trails to the professional tennis courts to the fitness center and more, residents have so many options to choose from when it comes to getting outdoors and finding ways to enjoy nature and the community with their family.
A popular amenitiy that Lantana families often use are the numerous playgrounds in the community. And, with spring right around the corner, families will soon be enjoying the playgrounds much more often. Lantana's playgrounds are very safe and inviting, but sometimes you just can't out smart mother nature. Below, we offer some tips to ensure a safe and healthy day at the Lantana playgrounds:
Bug Spray
We know the smell of bug spray can often keep its use away, but being outdoors for lengthy periods of time may bring unwanted bites or stings. Before you even leave the house to head out to the playground, do a quick spray down of bug spray on yourself and your child. There are pleasant smelling and kid friendly bug sprays available at grocery stores, superstores, pharmacies, etc.
First Aid Kit
There are small, travel-sized first aid kits available that are easy to stash in a purse, stroller or tote bag. Keep one on hand in case scratches, bumps or bruises happen to show up while playing outside on the playground.
Sunscreen
If it's a sunny day, applying a liberal amount of sunscreen on both you and your child is ideal to keep them protected from a lot of sun. Hats are also another great option for children to wear at the playground. Again, it's good to apply sunscreen before you even leave the house to hit the playground.
Hand Sanitizer
Keep hand sanitizer on hand if your kids get hungry and ready for a snack.
Water & Snacks
Speaking of snacks, stock up on water bottles and their favorite easy-to-carry snacks like trail mix, apple slices or nuts. It's also a good idea to bring snacks that are easy to clean up and won't create too much trash so none gets left behind and the playgrounds can be kept clean.
Safe Playground Toys
While the playgrounds are an adventure in themselves, sometimes the older kids might get bored after a few slides down the slide or climbs up the ladder. Toys like hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, small plastic pales and shovels, sports equipment like frisbees, footballs, softballs, soccer balls, etc., are great options to bring along as well so you know everyone will have a fun time outside.
Take a virtual tour of our playgrounds today!
Does your family visit the playground often? What is your child's favorite thing to do at the playground?

While showing the one you love that you cherish, adore and love them is shown and felt every day, Valentine's Day can be a fun day to do a little something extra for your loved one. Here are 10 fun ideas to show your sweetheart exactly how much you care:
1. Hide Love Notes
One sweet way to say "I Love You" through the day is to hide little love notes that your loved one can find at work or home throughout the day. Maybe hide one in their jacket pocket. Put one in their briefcase. If they bring a lunch, stick one in their. You could even go the extra mile and go up to their office before they get there and stick notes in their desk drawer, underneath their computer mouse and more. The same can be applied to hiding love notes around your Lantana home.
2. Breakfast in Bed
Nothing beats breakfast bed! Whip up some scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, anything your loved one loves for breakfast and surprise them with a yummy meal right when they wake up. It is the most important meal of the day after all!
3. Scavenger Hunt
If you've picked out the perfect gift for your loved one, make the suspense even more fun and exciting with a scavenger hunt around your Lantana home.
4. Homemade Coupon Book
Coupon Books are such fun and personalized gifts (plus, they never expire)! Make your loved one homemade coupons with construction paper and markers. Maybe your busy spouse needs dinner made for them and the family? Create a coupon that's good for you making 5 dinners that he/she can use whenever they're wanting a night to relax instead of cook. Or, perhaps your loved one always does something around the home. Make a coupon that says you'll do it instead. It's sweet, simple and very inexpensive. It's meaningful, too!
5. DIY Treats
While cookies and cakes are fun and easy to make, why not get a little more personal with special treats for your loved one or your entire family? Maybe they're a huge fan of popcorn or a lover of anything pasta. Real Simple shares some cute recipes to wrap up sweetly in DIY containers, like jars with fun ribbon, decorative bottles for a drink they love and more. A homemade gift will truly show your loved one you care, especially matched with their favorite treat!
6. Date Night with the Family
It's common to go out to eat or stay in and cook dinner at home for your Valentine's Day date with your loved one. Instead of the typical Valentine's routine, and with no need to spend money on a babysitter, plan something that your entire family can do together, like mini-golf, a trip to the movies or a family game night featuring your favorite foods.
7. Write A Poem
There is nothing more thoughtful than writing or describing the way you feel about someone. Even if you are nothing close to Shakespeare, something written from the heart will truly be more meaningful and a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day together. Plus, rhyming can be totally fun!
8. Reenact Your First Date
Do you remember where you and your loved one ate at on the first date? Or how about what you were wearing? A fun way to celebrate Valentine's Day this year is to bring back those sweet memories of your first date with your significant other and reenact the entire date. Where you ate, where you went, what movie you watched, etc. and talk about some of the things that occurred on the date. It's always fun to reminiscence about a beautiful night.
9. Picture Collage
Another way to reminiscence on the history of your relationship with your sweetheart is put together a scrap book or collage of all of your favorite photos. Maybe you have some fun photos from the ski trip you took together or photos from an event with the entire family, either way, your loved one, and yourself as well, will feel so special and have a great time looking back on photos of your relationship.
10. A Playlist of Your Favorite Music
After a romantic dinner together, pop in a mixed CD you made or queue up a playlist you created of songs both of you love. Whether your favorite songs include Frank Sinatra, ACDC or Britney Spears, music and dancing together could be fun and your loved one will appreciate the songs you took the time to compile. Music is a great way to say "I love you"!
With Valentine's Day being only a few days away, do you know how you are celebrating in Lantana this year? Do you like to stay in and celebrate or go out on the town?

If you're still moving right along with your New Year's resolution to work out, well, we're proud of you and you should be very proud of yourself! We hope Lantana's fitness center at the Central Amenity Center has been the perfect place to aid you in your healthy ways and provide the work out you're wanting and looking for. To keep that work out going in the right direction, here are 5 tips to keep in mind while you're at Lantana's fitness center:
1. Do even reps.
No matter if you're right handed, left handed or ambidextrous, do consistent, even reps while working out so you can ensure balance and symmetry for your body. For instance, if you do 10 bicep curls with your right arm, do 20 with the left. This should also apply to work outs for the legs, shoulders, wrists, and every other body part that you have two of.
2. Increase weight gradually.
Don't jump around on the weight you are using. Start out with a weight you are comfortable with and gradually, as time goes by, add a little bit more and a little bit more and a little more bit more. Also, don't add too much weight, too fast. Here's a great article from SparkPeople about how to know when you should be adding more weight to your work out routine.
3. Workout with a friend.
When you work out with a friend, more than likely, you won't skimp on your work out and may work out even harder. If your best friend, brother or sister, or one of your Lantana neighbors has a similar schedule to you and is interested in working out, the two of you can hit the fitness center together. This will also help you stay motivated and you can spend some quality, positive time with your friend if you have a hectic schedule. (Don't we all?!)
4. Trust your body when it comes to the time to work out.
WebMD says that you should "watch your body clock" so you know the best time for you to work out. Know the time of day that you have the most energy, maybe it's first thing in the morning or at the end of the day, and head to the fitness center. Working out when you're at the peak of your energy level will show the best results.
5. Take a break!
That's right! You don't have to work out every single day to see results and it's better on your body to take a break during a week of working out. Instead of an intense work out, swap it out with a leisurely stroll with friends on Lantana's hike and bike trails, maybe play a game of tennis on Lantana's tennis courts, or just sit and relax under the gazebo with your loved one when the weather is nice. There are plenty of fun things to do in Lantana.
Tell us - what do you enjoy about working out at Lantana's fitness center? How often to you use it and when is your favorite time to go? Share with us on Facebook and Twitter!

And the countdown begins! (Insert epic, intense music here...) The Big Game Week has finally graced us with its presence and many are gearing up for parties at their homes in Lantana. To ensure that your Game Day party is the best of the best this year, follow a few of these tips and your guests will be chanting your name on the sidelines.
1. Provide some fun Game Day crafts for kids AND adults.
That's right, all sides of the guest spectrum will have fun with easy crafts that everybody can enjoy doing together. Plus, craft time makes a great time to catch up with friends and family before the hooting and hollering begins.
Game Day Craft Ideas:
·Megaphones & Paint Pens - get megaphones in the two teams' colors (This year would be navy for the Patriots and red for the Giants or any color combo you choose...) and an array of colored paint pens. Let everyone design their own megaphone for some intense cheering action!
·DIY Pom Poms - This craft may be a little more fun for the girls, but by using basically much tissue paper and toilet paper rolls, you, your family and your guests can make their very own pom poms to cheer on their favorite team.
·Best TV Poster Contest - Okay, so you know when you're watching a football game and the camera hones in on a funny or clever sign that a fan has made? Well, why not set up a station with poster board, glitter glue, stickers and big markers so guests can create their own clever signs? Then, once they are made and before the game starts, vote on which one is the best and which one you think would get noticed by the camera man and award them a prize! (Or give fun, football-related prizes out to everyone!)
2. Fill the table with food and drink options for every guest on your list.
Since it's still early in the year, many people are sticking to their New Year's resolutions and a popular one is eating healthier. However, we all know parties around sports can bring out the unhealthier side of snacks - pizza, buffalo wings, etc. For this year's party, you can still make the traditional Game Day snacks, but there are ways to make them much healthier, like black bean quesadillas (which can also be good for any guests that are vegetarian) or healthier jalapeno poppers. Check out EatingWell for recipes of all of your game day favorites...only much, much healthier!
Trade out soda and diet soda with water, fruit and vegetable juices, sports drinks and iced tea for healthier drink options, too.
3. Have a separate room to watch the game and a separate room for the kids.
The Big Game is, of course, a wonderful time to gather with family and friends, eat yummy foods and enjoy an afternoon together, but sometimes, for the younger ones at least, it gets a wee boring. If there is room in your home, set up one room (probably closer to the kitchen so there is no shortage on eats) as the game watching room and another room as a room for the younger children to play and watch a show they'd like. If you have an older child that doesn't want to watch football either, offer them an incentive (like a few dollars or a night to the movies) if they want to babysit and keep an eye on all the little ones in the kids' room while the adults watch the game in the other room.
Do you have more tips on hosting the best Big Game party ever? If so, share with us on Facebook and Twitter. We'd love to hear your tips as we'll be talking about preping for the Big Game all week long!

Trust us, we know Lantana moms are pretty much superheros because of all of the things they can juggle at once! Soccer practice, cooking dinner, keeping the house in order...seriously, the list could go on and on with the things moms do for the family. And, sometimes, there just isn't enough time in the day for Mom to get to do the things she wants to do - like perhaps a little trip to the spa or even working out!
Never fear, below, we offer some workout ideas for our busy (And amazing!) Lantana moms to squeeze in a little workout time at home while keeping everything under control.
1. The stairs are your friends.
If you live in a two story home, use your stairs (and nap time) for workout time in the home! Make dinner in a crock pot so you don't have to keep your eyes on it and run/walk up the stairs for a period of time. Just be careful and keep your eyes on the stairs when you're walking so you don't trip and fall.
2. Things in the kitchen can work you out, too!
You'll be surprised by the number of kitchen tools, and non-kitchen tools, that you can incorporate into your workout. If you've got two empty one gallon water bottles or two liter coke bottles, those can be turned into free weights. Fill them up with water or sand to create the amount of weight you need to work your muscles. Now, you can lift weights and cook dinner at the same time - talk about multitasking!
3. Crunches, push-ups, and planks, oh my!
There are many different ways to do crunches and push-ups that can benefit muscles all over your body. While watching your kids in the same room, you can easily do a couple of reps of crunches and push-ups. Hey, the little ones may think what you're doing looks fun and want to join in! Here are some ab workout routines from Fitness Magazine and Shape Magazine.
4. Don't forget to stretch!
After a good workout, it's always important to stretch. Put your kids' favorite show on the TV or get a board game started, plop down right next to them and stretch your body while they play.
What is your favorite way to exercise?

Cough, cough, sniffle, sniffle, some North Texans are suffering from the cold and allergy blues, but you and your family can keep allergies, colds and the flu at bay by doing simple things such as washing your hands after using a public restroom, heavily hydrating yourself and eating healthy, vitamin-rich foods.
In order to protect your family this winter in Lantana, follow some of these tips for a germ-free (and stress-free) season:
Tip 1: Hand Sanitizer Keychains
Pop these in your purse, your spouse's jacket or attach to your child's backpack so you can ensure cold and flu germs stay away from your family. While it's still very important to wash your hands with soap and water, for those moments you aren't near a restroom, but touch any object that sees a lot of "hand traffic", like public computers at school, library books or door handles, a squirt or two after touching items like these will help to eliminate germs.
Hand sanitizer and hand sanitizer keychains can be found at grocery stores, Walmart, Target, pharmacies, etc.
Tip 2: Healthy, Nutrient-Rich Foods
Cold and flu season runs from October through May so serving healthy, nutritious foods will keep your family feeling great and staying that way during these troublesome months. A healthy body means your family will be able to attack the cold and flu back and keep it away. Good foods to consume include: dark, leafy green vegetables since they are chock-full of vital minerals and vitamins, yogurt, as some studies have shown that eating a daily cup of low-fat yogurt can reduce your susceptibility to colds by 25%, and more.
And, don't forget to drink plenty of fluids, too! It is very important to keep your body hydrated with water and natural juices. EatingWell is a great resource for healthy recipes.
Tip 3: Physical Activity
It is very important to stay active not only during cold and flu season, but all year round, as it gets your blood pumping, oxygen flows better and a healthy boday can keep you're inside healthy during the entire season. When the weather is nice, Lantana has many outdoor amenities to take advantage of as well as the Central Amenity Center for an indoor workout.
For more ideas on keeping your family healthy this cold and flu season, check out this great article from WebMD.
